January 2013 Membership Luncheon

Posted by: | Comments Comments Off

On January 8, we held the first Membership Luncheon of 2013. Like our other Luncheons, this one was packed with lots of great information.  Sidney Fontenot of St. Tammany Parish Department of Development brought good news that Impact Fees have been lowered in almost all cases and completely eliminated in some areas.  This can save $1,000′s on building project.  Mandeville Mayor Donald Villere was also there to discuss the proposed ordinance for Historic Districting of Old Mandeville.  He also gave an update ongoing projects in the City of Mandeville.

Our January Luncheon sponsor was the Bono Law Firm.  John and Michael Bono discussed how most of our member businesses can benefit from filing a claim for lost income due to the BP Oil Spill.  Your company does not have to have loss directly related to the spill and most area businesses qualify.  If you would like to know if you business qualifies, contact the Bono Law Firm and they will be happy to explain your options.

$150,000 Awarded at the August Luncheon

Posted by: | Comments Comments Off

Rick Roberts The August Membership Luncheon was packed with lots of exciting things.  First, our guest speaker Rick Roberts, President of the Louisiana Realtors Association spoke on the 3.8% medicare tax that is in the Healthcare Law.  There are a lot of myths going around about the tax and Rick explained how the program really works.  The National Association of Realtors has also produced a booklet to help explain the tax.

At the luncheon we also gave away a lot of money!  The 2012 “Raising the Roof for Charity” recipient organizations were presented with an amount totaling $145,000.  All of this money came from the 2012 “Raising the Roof for Charity” Raffle House, which was constructed in Maison du Lac by Integrity Builders.  This is a great annual event that has realized over $4.3 million for local charities since 1994.  This year’s participating charities were The Good Samaritan Ministry, Habitat for Humanity-St. Tammany West, Support Our War Heroes, Tammany Trace Foundation and St. Tammany HBA Charitable Trust.  Each organization will use the funds to improve the quality of life in St. Tammany Parish and for its citizens.  This project is made possible through the hard work and dedication of our members.  Each year our members join together to donate money and time to make this project a success.

2012 Raffle House Charities

We also gave out almost $8,000 to 15 deserving St. Tammany and Washington Parish students who will be attending school in Louisiana.  In May, our members came together to play and sponsor the Spring Scholarship Golf Tournament.  Since 2003, this event has generated over $101,000 that has been awarded to local students.  In order to be eligable for a scholarship, students must live in St. Tammany and Washington Parish and attend school in Louisiana (in addition to other criteria).
